Visionary: A Questfest Pitch
Visionary
Snippets of a dream. Flashes of a beautiful blonde woman. Strange images not yet understood. A man “awakens” from his vision. He must get to this woman. Why? Is she the one? Is she in trouble? Who is she? Where is she? Does this man even know her?
As the film progresses we are there as his flashes of insight become more and more coherent, the where, and when become obvious, but the why is still as elusive as the true meaning of the vision. Not until the last moment do we understand that this man must save this stranger. This beautiful woman will be killed if not saved by this man. He arrives in the nick of time to pull her to safety. A look of understanding and gratitude crosses her face. A glimmer of…adoration, a feeling of mutual attraction the man desperately desires and needs in his lonely existence. But it is short lived as a new vision overtakes him. With his gift, his curse, comes the responsibility to act. Only his swift response can save these virtual strangers, but at a price, a normal existence.
We see the mundane become obstacles for this obviously gifted man. Visionary, psychic, hero, whatever we choose to label this man, he is human, and he must overcome these everyday occurrences quickly to save a life, and to save himself from the insurmountable guilt that comes with failure. This man is on a quest to answer the call of his visions, to save strangers from disaster, or is it just to save his own peace of mind…
My pitch was approved. I have only showed it to Luanne. I am going to show you guys. Tell me what you think. Steve, if you want to do yours, you need to submit your pitch to one of the guys listed here on this thread of the official rules. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=166088
They asked for a simple pitch to see if you were abiding by the theme of the Fest. You had to “answer” some simple questions in your narrative. It was to read kind of like the back of a DVD sleeve.
Tell me what you guys think. I have the “script” all done. There is really no dialoge to speak of (no pun intended) I will post that script (ha get it! Post script!) if you guys want.
I’m dsto, and I’m out!

I wish you could be too! You would be great as the “bad guy”.
It cannot be longer than 6 minutes. Here is the script. I could picture you as “hooded man”
Opening scene:
Vague vision. Quick flashes of woman. Ambiguous. Where when why?
Coffee shop(or similar public setting) interior:
Man opens eyes with sharp, loud intake of breath. Seems physically shaken, slightly disoriented. He tries to clear his eyes as if blurry. Quickly searching for understanding with his eyes, rubbing his forehead. Then a suddenly he knows, and then a need to move, to react, overtakes him. He runs from the shop.
Coffee shop Exterior:
Man pauses for only a split second then decisively turns to the right.
Traffic slows him down, The simple act of crossing the street is a precious time consumer, The agitation clearly shows on the mans face.
Street and clock:
He is “pulled” in the general direction, he scans the street for something familiar to guide him, to reassure himself that he is going in the right direction. He fights pedestrian traffic to move forward. His eagerness to get to the woman in his vision becomes etched in his face. And another vision claims him. The woman, her watch reveals the time, details of her location are being revealed.
His eyes open, his breath drawn inward, he heads off again
Intersection:
He comes to another intersection. He does not know which way to turn. He only knows that time is running short. He checks his watch and then he is hit with another vision.
Flashes of the woman, the final details of her location.
Man awakens with the same loud intake of breath.
He decisively turns and heads toward his destination. The gravity of his vision is displayed on his face.
Alley:
He runs and runs, turns down an alley.
Another vision overtakes him. He is brought to his knees by the explosiveness of the vision, the revelation of why he is drawn to this woman, Flashes of her face, her location, the time and finally the car striking her as she steps off the sidewalk.
His eyes open with the now familiar intake of breath as he rejoins reality and real time.
Still on his knees, he prays. His mission is revealed, he asks for strength
Halfway down the alley, the man feels he is being watched. He slowly turns around and discovers a hooded man watching him at the entrance of the alley. Hooded man looks at his wrist, as if checking a watch. Then slowly raises his hand and makes a gesture, as if to say “You’re running out of time”.
Hooded man smiles and instantly gives chase. The man has a generous head start and runs out of the alley. At the alleys exit point he looks back to check on the progress of his pursuer, only to discover he has vanished into thin air.
The Incident Location:
He reaches the place of his vision. He scans the street for the woman. She finally emerges from a building with a group of other people, talking, not knowing the time is approaching. He runs toward her as she approaches the edge of the sidewalk. Her conversation drawing her attention away from the oncoming car, her friends equally unaware of the eminent danger. The man races to reach her in time. Her foot leaves the side walk as the car draws closer, a smile still spread out on her face. He reaches through the crowd , his hand closing around her arm just in time to pull her back onto the sidewalk as the car, drives safely past. Hooded man is seen from the perspective of the rear seat of the car. He grins, he causes mischief, he enjoys your suffering.
She looks at the car drive away, looks back at the man who just saved her.
A look of relief and gratitude replaces the shock that just covered the womans face. She slowly turns around to fully face this man, her hero. They look into each others eyes; a glow of warm attraction enters her eyes. Just as she is about to attempt to express her thanks in words, a new vision overtakes the man.
His eyes close. A man in a darkened room, tied to a chair, duct tape over his mouth, a look of terror in his eyes as he looks at unseen captors. Camera slowly pans to reveal Hooded man standing over his victim.
Eyes opened, intake of breath. The man looks longingly at the woman, turns his head to look down the street. Turns back at the woman and with a deep sadness in his eyes turns to run down the street,

Why don’t I come for a week end and film my scenes we could do it in that amount of time don’t you think?
April 6th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
You bet. We need to work the details out. I have to get the other parts nailed down. You would be in the scenes with other actors so the timing would need to be nailed down. But I think we can work it out. I figure Steve can be the kidnapped guy at the end, so that will not be a problem scheduling. But the others….we will work it out. We will need to film on a good weather Saturday, we will shoot it all downtown where I have some spots picked out that are cool. Hopefully you will be here long enough to help when you are not in a scene.
